Friends Since the 1970s: Hello Kitty and My Melody Share a Stamp and Coin Cover
Some friendships last. Hello Kitty and My Melody have been friends since the 1970s, which makes My Melody one of Hello Kitty’s oldest companions in the Sanrio world.
The Perth Mint has put the pair together on the Hello Kitty and My Melody 2026 Stamp and Coin Cover. We have it in stock now at $37.
Two classic characters
Hello Kitty is the warm, friendly face most people know. My Melody is gentler. She’s kind, she loves baking, and she looks after the people around her.
She’s also easy to spot. She wears a hood, usually pink, with rabbit ears poking through. If you were a child in the late 1970s or 1980s, you may remember her on stationery and lunchboxes.
I like this pairing. Both characters come from Sanrio’s early years, so this cover has a classic feel the others don’t. For long-time fans, I suspect this will be the favourite.
The design
The coloured reverse shows Hello Kitty and My Melody side by side. Behind them is a background of stars and dots, which matches the solo Hello Kitty cover and the group cover.
Jennifer McKenna designed the reverse. Jody Clark designed the obverse.
In the pack
The coin sits in a printed card with a round window, so you can see the design straight away. An official Australia Post stamp comes with it, postmarked on the first day of issue.
The details:
- $1 coin in uncirculated aluminium bronze
- 13.50g weight, 30.70mm diameter
- Issue limit of 5,150
