Winter Paralympics 2026 $1 Coloured Uncirculated Coin

The Royal Australian Mint proudly supports the Australian Winter Paralympic Team as they head to the 2026 Milano Cortina Games to take on the world. This 2026 $1 coloured uncirculated coin embodies the determination, courage and the true spirit of the Paralympic movement.

Australia first competed at the Winter Paralympic Games in 1980 in Geilo, Norway, with two athletes. It wasn't until 1992 in Albertville, France, that Australia won its first medal, a bronze by Michael Milton in alpine skiing. Milton went on to become a Paralympic legend, winning six gold, three silver and two bronze medals across four Games, and setting the foundation for Australia's success on snow.

Following in his tracks, athletes like Bart Bunting, Jess Gallagher and Simon Patmore have continued Australia's proud tradition. Bunting won multiple golds in visually impaired alpine skiing in 2002. Gallagher became Australia's first female Winter Paralympic gold medallist, excelling in both skiing and cycling across multiple Games. These athletes have inspired a generation and demonstrated the extraordinary heights that can be achieved through dedication and resilience.

This coin captures the dynamic energy of winter para-sport with a reverse design by E. Waterford. It features an alpine skier surrounded by snowflakes and Team Australia graphics. The obverse features the effigy of King Charles III by designer Daniel Thorne.

Presented in a capsule within a presentation card, this strictly limited release has a maximum mintage of 25,000.
