The Ulysses butterfly (Papilio ulysses) is native to the tropical regions of Australia, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and the Solomon Islands. Known for its vivid electric-blue wings, it is sometimes called the blue emperor or blue mountain swallowtail. With a wingspan reaching up to 14cm, its colouration is produced by microscopic scales that reflect and refract light.
The coloured reverse features a Ulysses butterfly at its centre, accompanied by three smaller butterflies in flight. Surrounding the scene are native flora including the golden blooms of goodenia and the pink blossoms of Euodia. Struck design elements include the Cape York lily and the bower of beauty. A ribbon scroll carries the inscription 'BUTTERFLY', along with the coin's weight, purity, 2026 year-date and The Perth Mint's 'P' mintmark. The obverse carries the Dan Thorne effigy of His Majesty King Charles III. Each coin is individually antiqued, giving it a unique finish — as a result, the appearance of each coin in the mintage may vary.

Purchase limits
Popular releases can carry a limit per customer so more collectors get a fair go. A customer is one person, family, delivery address, email address, payment card or IP address, and the limit includes previous orders. Some limited releases need you to log in so we can count your earlier orders; others allow guest checkout.
Every order for a limited release is checked by hand. If the limit is exceeded, all orders involved may be cancelled and refunded less reasonable costs of up to 20%. See our Terms of Service and Refund Policy.
