newsXpress and The Royal Australian Mint present the 2026 Bright Ideas $1 and $2 Privy Mark Seven-Coin Collection, celebrating five Australian inventions that changed the world.
The collection celebrates five of Australia's best-known inventions: the stump jump plough, patented by Richard Smith in 1876; the black box flight recorder, invented by Dr David Warren in 1953; the jaffle maker, first invented by Dr Ernest Smithers in 1949 and reimagined by Breville in 1974; the Safe-n-Sound Baby Safety Capsule, invented by Bill Bowtell, Bob Heath and Colin Nagel; and high-speed WLAN technology, developed in the 1990s by CSIRO.
The collection includes seven coins featuring a light bulb privy mark, presented in a keepsake box with seven coin card slots inside. Limited to a mintage of 15,000.
