Australian Kookaburra 2026 1/4oz Gold Proof Coin
The kookaburra is one of Australia's most recognisable birds, known for its distinctive, laughter-like call that carries through the bush. A member of the kingfisher family, it is unusual in that it rarely eats fish, preferring insects, small reptiles and small mammals. Often seen perched on branches scanning the ground for prey, it is a familiar and much-loved part of Australia's wildlife.
The coin's reverse depicts a kookaburra soaring above a riverbed, with rugged grasslands, trees and rocky terrain in the background. The inscription 'KOOKABURRA', the coin's weight, purity, fineness and 2026 year-date are also included, along with The Perth Mint's 'P' mintmark. The obverse carries the Dan Thorne effigy of His Majesty King Charles III.
