Australia Quarter Sovereign 2026 Gold Proof Coin
The Perth Mint opened in 1899 as a branch of Britain's Royal Mint, producing sovereigns from Western Australian gold. Over 106 million sovereigns were struck between then and 1931, each featuring Benedetto Pistrucci's St George and the dragon reverse design. St George was celebrated in medieval legend as a symbol of courage and the triumph of good over evil.
This 2026 quarter sovereign gives that classic design a fresh treatment. The reverse shows a naked warrior on horseback with a sword raised above a dragon, within a decorative circle of raised dots. The inscription 'AUSTRALIA', the 2026 year-date and The Perth Mint's 'P' mintmark are included, along with a privy mark with the number '100' marking what would have been the 100th birthday of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The coin comes in a presentation case with a numbered certificate of authenticity. The obverse carries the Dan Thorne effigy of His Majesty King Charles III.
