60th Anniversary of Decimal Currency 2026 Proof Six-Coin Year Set

Sale price$150.00

The Royal Australian Mint commemorates six decades of decimal currency with this specially curated proof coin set. Released in February 2026, this collection marks a significant milestone in Australia's monetary history.

On 14 February 1966, Australia transitioned to decimal currency in a cultural and practical shift that transformed how the nation counted and traded. The government launched an extensive public education campaign featuring Dollar Bill, a friendly cartoon character who appeared on television, posters and pamphlets. His catchphrase, 'Decimal Currency - The Easy Way', helped Australians understand the new system and ensured a smooth transition.

The path to decimalisation required years of careful planning. A Decimal Currency Board guided the process, and a nationwide competition determined the name for the new currency. While suggestions like 'austral' and 'royal' were considered, 'dollar' emerged as the practical choice.

This anniversary set features six individually encapsulated proof coins presented in a display case with an informative booklet and outer box. The collection includes custom reverses on the 10c and 50c coins celebrating both pre-decimal and decimal coinage designs.
