There are two things that frustrate collectors about new mint releases. The first is a price that has been marked up the moment demand appears. The second is finding a sold-out page five minutes after a release opens, then seeing the same items listed elsewhere at triple the price that afternoon.

We have taken a position on both.

Mint Coin Shop sells at recommended retail. When the Royal Australian Mint, The Perth Mint or Agoro by New Zealand Mint sets a price, that is our price. We do not raise it because a release is popular, and we do not quietly adjust it as stock thins. If a coin is $230 on release day, it is $230 while we have it.

We also actively block bots. Automated buying is the single biggest reason genuine collectors miss out on limited releases. We use purchase limits on high-demand items, and on some releases those limits apply per customer, address, family, credit card and IP address. Orders are checked manually. Where someone has clearly worked around a limit, orders are cancelled and refunded, less a restocking amount to cover our costs. It is stated plainly in our terms because we would rather be clear up front than argue later.

None of this is complicated. It is simply a decision about who the store is for. We would rather sell one coin each to five collectors than five coins to one person planning to resell them by the weekend.
