Why fair pricing and human connection still matter in coin collecting

Collecting is supposed to be fun. The wait for a release date, the moment a coin you have chased for months finally goes in the cabinet.

Too often though, it can feel more like a fight. Popular releases sell out in seconds, often to bots that clear the stock before a real person can refresh the page. Within hours the same coins appear on secondary marketplaces at double or triple the price. If that has happened to you, you know exactly how flat it leaves you feeling.

We share your frustration.

Here is how we do things at Mint Coin Shop.

A local Australian retailer

We are a family owned Australian business, part of the newsXpress group, with our roots in local independent retail across regional towns and capital cities. There is a face behind the counter here. When you buy from us, you are dealing with people who care about the hobby and want it to still be worth joining in ten years.

We sell at RRP

When a hot coin drops, we do not raise the price to match the hype. We do not check secondary market listings to see what we could get away with either, though plenty do. A release that sells out in an hour costs the same as one that sits on the shelf for months: the official mint release price.

What we do about bots and flippers

We run security measures that block automated checkout scripts. We enforce household limits on high demand releases so more collectors get a turn. When we spot bulk orders designed to dodge those limits, we cancel them and put the stock back on sale for real buyers.

All of that costs us time, and we would rather spend it than watch a flipper's script beat a genuine collector to the checkout.

Official stock, sourced directly

We are an official stockist for the Royal Australian Mint, the Perth Mint and the New Zealand Mint. Everything we sell arrives through authorised channels, so you never need to wonder about grey market sourcing or resealed packaging. We pack every order carefully and store our stock in a clean, smoke free environment.

Collecting works best when ordinary collectors can actually get the coins. Thank you for supporting a local Australian business that keeps it that way.
