The 2027 Year of the Goat 1oz Silver Trio Set: Three Goats, Three Finishes
The Lunar calendar moves to the Year of the Goat in 2027. The Perth Mint has marked it with a set for Lunar collectors and for anyone who likes comparing coin finishes side by side.
The 2027 Year of the Goat 1oz Silver Trio Set has three 1oz silver coins with the same design, each in a different finish. The maximum mintage is 1,500 sets.
The design
The reverse of each coin shows a mature goat, a young goat and a baby goat grazing together. The Perth Mint links the design to the traditional phrase "Three Goats Bring Bliss", which is associated with renewal and prosperous new beginnings.
So there are three goats on each coin, and three coins in the set. It's a nice touch, and it gives you an easy story to tell when you show the set to someone.
The reverse was designed by Natasha Muhl and the obverse by Dan Thorne.
Three finishes in one set
This is what sets the trio apart. You get:
· A 1oz Silver Proof coin, struck with specially prepared dies for a mirror-like field and frosted design. Proof finishes show fine detail well.
· A 1oz Silver Coloured coin, with colour applied to the goats and their landscape.
· A 1oz Silver Gilded coin, where selective gold plating picks out parts of the design against the silver.
Seeing one design in three finishes shows how much the finish changes a coin's character. For newer collectors it's a useful lesson in the differences. Experienced collectors will simply enjoy having all three together.
The story of the Goat
In Chinese tradition, the emperor held a great race among the animals to decide the 12 places in the Lunar calendar. The goat travelled with the monkey and the rooster. When they reached a wide river, the three worked together to cross it, with the goat leading the way. It finished eighth.
People born in a Year of the Goat, including 2027, 2015, 2003, 1991 and 1979, are said to be gentle, creative and compassionate, with a calm nature and an artistic streak.
A thoughtful gift
Those birth years make the set an easy gift choice. It suits a baby born in 2027, a child born in 2015 or a young adult born in 2003. It also works for someone born in 1991 or 1979 who is celebrating their own Goat year, and for grandparents building a Lunar collection for the family.
