Halloween is a day away: The Joker Blind Box: What Your $235 Actually Buys

Blind boxes are fun. They’re also easy to get carried away with. So before you open one, it helps to know the real odds.

The Batman: The Animated Series Joker Blind Box from Agoro by New Zealand Mint is now in stock at $235. Here’s what’s inside, and what your chances look like.

The second release in the series

The Joker follows Batman as the second character in Agoro’s Batman: The Animated Series blind box collection. If you watched the show in the 1990s, you’ll know the look straight away. It’s drawn in that sharp, moody animated style, with the Joker at his most theatrical.

Every piece is a shaped collectible rather than a round coin. Each one is individually numbered within its tier and issued as legal tender by Niue.

The four tiers, and your odds

There are 5,000 boxes in total, split across four tiers:

• Tier 1: 1/2oz 999 silver, colour finish. 3,485 made. Odds of 69.7%.
• Tier 2: 1/2oz 999 silver, colour finish with alternate art. 1,000 made. Odds of 20%.
• Tier 3: 1/2oz 999 silver, fully engraved. 500 made. Odds of 10%.
• Tier 4 Chase: 1/2oz 9999 gold, fully engraved. Just 15 made. Odds of 0.3%.

Every box contains half an ounce of precious metal. You won’t open an empty box.

My honest advice

That gold Chase piece is the one everyone talks about. It shows the Joker caught in the act with a can of spray paint. But at 0.3%, roughly three boxes in every thousand, it’s a long shot.

So I suggest a simple rule. Buy a box because you’d be happy with the Tier 1 coin. Anything better is a bonus.

If you go in expecting the gold, you’ll probably be disappointed. If you go in expecting a well-made silver Joker, you’ll probably be pleased.

Why we stock Agoro blind boxes

We’ve supported Agoro’s blind box range since they first entered the category. The packaging is well made, the art is faithful to the source, and the odds are published up front. That transparency matters.

We sell every box at RRP. We don’t add a premium for popular releases, and we don’t open, search or resell boxes.
