Dumbo lands in store: a silver set for Disney collectors
Every so often a collectable comes through that stops us at the counter. This is one of them. We love Dumbo. Everyone loves Dumbo.
The Disney Dumbo Collectible Set from Agoro by New Zealand Mint pairs two pieces of 999 pure silver in one display pack. The first is a shaped 3/4 oz coin of Dumbo himself, in black and white with his hat and collar picked out in yellow. The design is a nod to 1941, when the film first screened and the character was drawn by hand. The second piece is a 5 g silver foil printed with animation model sheet drawings, the working sketches animators used to keep Dumbo looking like Dumbo from every angle, complete with their notes. Turn the foil over and there is a full colour scene on the back.
It is officially licensed, issued as legal tender by Niue, and both pieces arrive in dual window packaging so you can display them without opening anything.
The number that matters: 1,000 sets worldwide. Not 1,000 for Australia. Each coin and foil is individually numbered, though the two numbers in a set are not guaranteed to match.
Disney silver at this mintage tends to find its buyers fast, and much of it goes to collectors who never see it in person before purchase. Having one in the shop means you can look at it properly before deciding.
This is a genuine collector piece rather than an impulse buy, and it suits milestone gifts. A christening, a 21st, a Disney fan who has everything plastic and nothing precious. Dumbo has been making people cry happy tears for 85 years, which is a fair run for a flying elephant.
Come in and see it while we have it. Once our allocation goes, it is gone.
