Advice of Starting a Coin Collection for Your Grandkids

There is something lovely about putting away a coin for a grandchild. It is small, it lasts, and one day it will mean far more than what it cost. You do not need to be an expert or a big spender to do it well. You just need to begin.

Start small and simple

You do not have to plan the whole thing at once. One coin is a collection. Pick something that marks this year, or the year your grandchild was born, and set it aside. You can always add to it later.

A yearly coin is an easy place to begin. Many people choose one coin a year, often around a birthday, and let the collection grow alongside the child. By the time your grandchild is old enough to understand it, there is a little row of years waiting for them.

Choose coins with a story
