A sturdy quadruped found in forested, mountainous and heathland areas of eastern Australia and the island of Tasmania, the wombat has powerful limbs and sharp flat claws ideally suited for digging. At up to one meter in length, it is one of the largest burrowing animals in the world.
Like other marsupials, the female wombat has a special pouch in which its offspring completes its development. In this burrowing species, the pouch opens backwards to avoid smothering the young animal with soil as its parent tunnels underground.
Each coin is struck by The Perth Mint from 1oz of 99.99% pure silver and issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965.
The Perth Mint will release no more than 2,500 of this Wombat 2024 1oz Silver Coloured Coin in Card.
