Why We Do Not Run Ballots for New Coin Releases?

Some coin retailers run ballots for sought-after new releases. You register, you wait, and you hope your name comes up.

We do not do ballots at Mint Coin Shop. We never have run ballots. Here is why.

From years of experience serving collectors, we know one thing above almost everything else: people buying coins want certainty. They want to know that if they act, they get the coin.

A ballot is not certainty. A ballot is a lottery. You put your name in and then you wait. Often you find out too late that you were not successful. By then the release has sold through everywhere else, and you have missed the coin altogether. You did everything right and still ended up with nothing. We think that is a rotten experience to put a customer through.

So we take a different path. We set fair release limits instead.

For high-demand releases, we apply a strict limit of one per customer, per address, per household. The limit is enforced firmly. Orders are checked manually, and anyone gaming the limit has their orders cancelled. That is not us being difficult. That is us keeping bots and bulk buyers from hoovering up stock meant for genuine collectors.

The result: more people get access to sought-after new coin releases. If the coin is showing as available on our site and you order it, it is yours. No waiting weeks for a ballot result. No crossing your fingers.

We know from customer feedback that collectors love this approach. People tell us the certainty is exactly why they buy new releases from us rather than entering ballots elsewhere. That feedback means a lot, and it keeps us committed to the model.

Is our way perfect? No system is when demand outstrips supply. Popular releases still sell out. But when they do, the coins have gone one per household to real collectors, first in, first served. We think that is as fair as it gets.

Mint Coin Shop is locally owned and run, an authorised dealer sourcing new stock direct from the mints.
