Kangaroo Coins for 2026 – Mob of Six, High Relief Silver and the Mini Roo
No animal has done more work on Australian coinage than the kangaroo. It appeared with the emu on the 1910 coat of arms threepence, sixpence, shilling and florin. A leaping kangaroo arrived on the penny in 1938 and the halfpenny a year later. After 1966 it appeared within the coat of arms on the fifty-cent coin. Then in 1984 the new one-dollar coin carried Stuart Devlin's mob of five.
2026 gives that history a proper nod, and there is a kangaroo release at almost every level.
The Kangaroo Series 2026 releases carry Mob of Six, a tribute to six decades of Australian decimal currency. The $1 1oz Fine Silver Frosted Uncirculated Coin is $155, with a limit of five per customer. The $1 1oz Fine Silver Proof Coin is $190, limited to two per customer. Those limits are there so collectors, not resellers, get them. There is also a $10 1/10oz Gold Proof Coin at $925.
From The Perth Mint, the Australian Kangaroo 2026 1oz Silver Proof High Relief Coloured Coin is the standout at $230. Struck in high relief on concave surfaces, it shows two kangaroos mid-leap across rippling water with mountains behind. A privy mark bearing the number 40 honours the 40th anniversary of the Australian Nugget. Limited to 5,000 worldwide, designed by Neil Hollis.
If budget allows, the Wonders of Australia Kangaroo 2026 5oz Silver Proof Double Gilded Coin at $1,045 is a genuine centrepiece. Kangaroos bounding at sunset, with the sun gilded in gold and the sky and outer rim in 22-carat pink gold. Maximum mintage 500, designed by Jennifer McKenna.
At the other end, the Australian Kangaroo Mini Roo 2026 0.5g Gold Proof Coin in Card is $185. Real 99.99% gold, 11.60mm across, sealed in an acrylic capsule in a wallet-sized card. It is the easiest first gold purchase there is.
