Do we sell secondhand coins? We get asked this often, so it is worth a post of its own.

All the coins we sell at Mint Coin Shop are new. We do not sell secondhand coins. We do not buy old coin collections. And we are not valuers, so we cannot comment on what your coin collection might be worth.

We mention this because the question comes up almost every week. Someone inherits a collection, or finds a tin of coins in a cupboard, and reaches out asking if we will buy it or tell them its value. We understand why people ask. We are a coin business, after all. But it is not what we do, and we would rather be clear than leave anyone waiting on an answer we cannot give.

Our focus is selling new coins and coin products sourced direct from the various mints we deal with. We are an authorised dealer for the Royal Australian Mint, the Perth Mint and Agoro by the New Zealand Mint. Everything on our shelves came to us straight from the mint through official channels. Nothing pre-owned. Nothing of uncertain history.

There is a genuine benefit in that for you. When every coin is new and mint-sourced, you never need to wonder about authenticity, condition or provenance. What you order is exactly what the mint released, in the condition the mint released it. Simple.

If you do have a collection to sell or value, our suggestion is to seek out a specialist numismatic dealer or a qualified valuer. That is their craft. Australia has good ones, and a professional assessment is worth having before you part with anything.
